After the realization of the pilot project ‘Environment in the Youth Policy in Serbia’, the European Youth Center is continuing its work in the field of ecology through the project ‘Green activist: youth for the environment’.
Awareness of the importance of the environment is one of the key indicators of society’s maturity. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to strengthen the capacities of local youth offices, youth organizations and raising awareness of the bearers of society, young people, about particular problems in Serbia, about the possibilities of their participation and contribution to the preservation of the environment at the local level and therefore on the national level.
The project will contribute to identifying environmental issues by supporting a clear definition of the environmental aspect in all local action plans for youth and other youth activities.
Within the project, 15 round tables will be held throughout Serbia, where youth organizations and youth offices will have conversations with representatives of local self-government who are responsible for the preservation of the environment and representatives of organizations whose focus is on environmental protection. The round table is an ideal opportunity to present problems and opportunities for more active involvement of young people in the realization of activities in the field of ecology, as well as for connecting offices for youth and youth ecological organizations.
The participation of young people in decision-making on environmental issues on this way becomes regulated and obligatory, and participation of more people in the planning and implementation of the project is achieved. The unavoidable result is that this contributes to raising the awareness of a wide population of young people in Serbia about the need for massive activism and volunteerism in order to preserve the environment for future generations.
The project contributes to the popularization of positive models of activism in the field of environment by rewarding young people who show the possibility for conducting ecological action through the recognitions of ‘Green activist’, ‘Green Initiative’ and ‘Green Seal’ for the youth office, which contributes for the green and healthier future.
